FREE Lorry Training and Tests for 17 – 18 year olds
WHAT IS THE YOUNG DRIVER SCHEME?
The Young Driver Scheme is managed by Skills for Logistics on behalf of the Department of the Environment, Transport and the Regions (DETR).
The scheme provides the opportunity for a young person to obtain a full Category 'C' (Class 2 - Rigids) licence at the age of 18 rather than waiting until they are 21.
trans plant mastertrain is an Approved Training Organisation (ATO) which enables us to carry out this qualification while obtaining full funding.
What's involved?
Registered young drivers follow a structured programme leading to a Level 2 National Vocational (NVQ) in Driving Goods Vehicles. They can also achieve a Key Skills qualification in 2 subjects as well as having their driving assessed 4 times over a 6-month period after gaining their lorry licence.
Stages
- Recruit or select an employee;
- Induction visit including registration onto the scheme;
- Complete Key Skills (if required);
- Complete part of the NVQ (Generally 1 visit);
- Attend LGV driver training theory and practical tests;
- Complete NVQ (Generally 3 visits);
- Complete four 1hour driving assessments over a 6-month period.
Scheme features
Candidates must:
- be aged between 17 – 19 to obtain funding;
- hold no more than 3 penalty points on their licence;
- be employed;
- not be receiving any other funded training.
